"Sunshine State" is the 10th song on the album Pressure by Julia Wolf.
This song quickly rose to my favorite from this album. Julia Wolf is most well-known for her song "In My Room" because of it's popularity on TikTok and being constantly associated with the Twilight movies (which she loves).
The main lyrics that stick out to me are: "So you pack up your car, leave your brothers in the rearview / Say you'll be back, but they know it's just a half-truth / Torn between chasing a dream and missing your mom" The way she sings this fills me with a dread about being lonely. The last part about missing a mom really gets me, because growing up really feels like leaving family behind... And I hate that.
The song's title is clearly about Florida, and she even mentions the state in the first line of the song. According to her Genius lyrics, this is about her finding a man who has shared her similar struggles and how well they got on because of their shared past. Now I don't really relate, and truthfully I listened to this in a moment of heartbreak, and I relate it with yearning, but I tend to do that anyways with most songs.
I think this song is very clear with it's message, especially with her commentary on it, but I think it's interesting to see how I can put a different message for this song, when it already has a clear meaning that has been defined.
Sorry for the short post, but I really like this song, and this album. Her voice is super nice and the lyrics are very fun/sad so of course I love it.
